In this project, called 'Liminal Space' I seek to understand human relationships developed over long periods of time and visually build both a sense of belonging and loss of place.
The project incorporates portraiture and a photographic analysis of space, specifically the countryside of São Paulo, Brazil, where I plan to return.
Each portrait is in part a self-portrait that illuminates the emotional disconnection and distance shared between the subject and myself. The spaces try to find their memory and link with the past - but reveal themselves to be mere symbols of the passage of time and the loss of a fictitious nostalgia. They are static and paralyzed by the functional and arid architecture of a traditional Brazilian middle class.
