36 x 60 acrylic and pastel on board
My work tells the story of a world very similar to our own - a world of synthetic landscapes, machines for living - a world utterly transformed by its inhabitants. Each piece is grounded in real machines, processes, and elements of the built environment but employed in fictional or hyperbolic ways. Parts of these mechanical landscapes are drawn with technical accuracy, but the hand-drawn, illustrative quality of the technique adds depth, nuance, and mood, helping to draw out the narratives of these allegorical machines. The primary graphic device is the line, indicating movement and trajectory. I use architectural drafting techniques and simple geometric building blocks to weave together complex, even chaotic, narratives that attempt to transcend the sum of their constituent rules.
