Retrograding: (collaboration with Stephanie Ballantine) Two nearly anonymous companions enter a lush city park where they loose their intention. The low summer sun remains as they march; twitching and shivering through the fast, grey, structure of the city into a winter hole. The two emerge as extensions of wild natures, they are spirits of the dislocated- failing to grip onto a humanness in the stark grid of the city. The piece is the third in a series of works exploring ‘the 7 of cups’ tarot card; a card that deals with symbols of illusion and reality. The image on the card itself is of a shadowed figure staring mesmerized at floating cups each holding objects: symbols of dreams, ideas, thoughts, illusions, transitions. The figure is faced with a confusing choice, to decide which cup will enrich, and which will manipulate.
